Maine is fondly nicknamed “The Pine Tree State” and attracts loads of tourists every fall who come to see the leaves changing color in over 17 million acres of magnificent forests. The next time you are in Southern Maine, why not finish your day with something a little unexpected, like attending a murder mystery dinner. Murder mystery dinner theatres have been making a comeback with permanent and touring companies that travel from city to city. A murder mystery turns an ordinary dinner or weekend into an action-packed event.
Brickroad Productions is a dinner theater company that tours all over New England, including Maine. They have several different performances that invite guests to come for an evening of murder, mystery, clues and adventure. Guests arrive at 6:00 p.m. and are quickly whisked away into a world of gangsters, guns and organized crime. A murder takes place, and guests are given clues throughout the evening in order to solve the murder. For extra fun, this company encourages audience participation. Their website provides a listing of locations, date and times for their dinner shows.

While murder mystery New Year’s Eve parties were all the rage a few years ago, the newest trend is the Christmas murder mystery weekend. The noted murder mystery troop “Kieth and Margo” put on a full Christmas Murder Mystery Weekend at the luxurious Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine. Guests arrive Friday night to meet their fellow “detectives,” the special twist being that the actors blend in with the guests, so anyone could be guilty. Dead bodies and clues appear over the course of the evening and the following day, and on Sunday guests write down their choice for the culprit. The guests who choose correctly even win prizes.
