Haunted San Diego Hotels

Because of San Diego's rich history, many stories of hauntings in the local historic buildings are told. According to San Diego Hotels, hotels have some of the mostly lively ghost stories, such as ghosts haunting specific rooms and stories of tragic early deaths. Haunted San Diego Tours offers a purple bus tour of all of the ghostly sites including Horton Grand Hotel, Hotel del Coronado, and The Grande Colonial.

  1. Horton Grand Hotel

    • The Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego was built in 1886 in response to the "Boom of the Eighties" that occurred after the first transcontinental train route was established. The hotel, which offers a variety of hotel rooms and amenities, is said to be haunted. The ghost of Roger Whitaker, one of many of the possible ghosts occupying the hotel, is the most popular of the spirits and is said to be found in room 309. The hotel's website states that all of the spirit are friendly and pose no threat to guests.

    Hotel del Coronado

    • Hotel del Coronado, which is located in a historic area of San Diego, has nearly 120 years of stories to tell. Hotel del Coronado is said to be haunted by the resident ghost of Kate Morgan, who checked into the hotel on November 24, 1892 and committed suicide at the hotel. Many stories have been reported over the years of spiritual happenings related to Kate Morgan's early death.

    The Grande Colonial

    • The Grande Colonial, which opened as the "Colonial Apartments and Hotel" in 1913, is located in a historic part of San Diego known as La Jolla. La Jolla was a tourist spot in the 1920's, a gathering place for Hollywood stars over the years and a temporary barracks during World War II. The hotel is said to host the spirits of several dead soldiers from the war period. After multiple renovations, each costing millions of dollars, the original hotel is now contains all of the modern amenities with a classic European style.
