South Padre Island is located on the southwest tip of Texas and only about five miles from the border of Mexico. The island is less than a mile wide and sits between Laguna Madre Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. People from all over come to enjoy the area’s tropical weather and remote beaches, and the island offers a variety of outdoor activities.
The Windsurfing Corporation is located on the north end of South Padre Island, and situated right on the coast of Laguna Madre Bay. South Padre Island is one of the most ideal places to windsurf in the country because of the area's constant winds and tropical temperatures. Windsurfing Corporation offers lessons to beginners as well as equipment rental and sales. Lessons are run by highly experienced and certified windsurfers and start at $25 per hour (as of 2010) plus cost of equipment. Windsurfing Corporation also offers kiteboarding lessons and equipment to rent or to buy.

Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, located on the southern part of South Padre Island, is just over a block from the Queen Isabella Causeway, which is the only way to get on and off the island. Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark offers water rides and activities for the entire family as well privates access to the beach. It also has Shrimp Haus Restaurant, which features live music and a menu with fresh local seafood dishes such as shrimp scampi and a fried oyster basket that includes tender bay oysters. The water park includes over 15 water attractions, rides and pools that appeal to all ages. The Aqua Blana Tube Chute, for example, is a chute that transports tubers from one pool to the next. The Bob’s Float Inn Bar is a swim-up bar located right off the pool and hot tub.

South Padre Island Kiteboarding is located in central South Padre Island right on State Park Road 100, which runs through the entire island. South Padre Island Kiteboarding is the island’s first place that is dedicated only to the sport of kiteboarding and offers lessons and equipment to rent or buy. Kiteboarding classes are led by highly trained teaches who have access to over 500 acres of private beach property with no obstructions. Private kiteboarding lessons start at $85 an hour (as of 2010) and many different types of lessons are offered.
