The shores of Washington state's Puget Sound, which is located in the northwestern part of the state, boasts a wealth of activities for those who love the water. There are a number of boat rental opportunities made available for locals and tourists to get out on the sound to fish, kayak, water ski or just enjoy the area's breathtaking beauty.
Alki Kayak Tours specialize in guided sea kayak tours which explore the natural history of the Puget Sound region. Kayak tours are led by expert guides who explain the history and ecosystems of the sound through meaningful commentary and entertaining stories about the area. Beyond guided tours, private kayaks and motorboats are also available for rent. As of June 2010, the rates for a two hour motor boat rental was $80.00 or $100.00 for a three hour rental. Three gallons of gas are included. Single person kayak rentals were available for $25.00 per hour while two person kayaks were $25.00 per hour.

For a perfect day of fishing or just relaxing on the waters of Puget Sound, Point Defiance Marina offers boat rentals that are available for a few hours or the whole day. Point Defiance Marina, a division of Metro Parks Tacoma, also offers fishing pole and crab pot rentals for seafood enthusiasts. As of June 2010, the cost of boat rentals through peak season, which consists of May 1 through September 30, was $40.00 per day. Off season rates, which are available October 1 through April 30, are $25.00 per day.

Located on Lake Union, Northwest Outdoor Center offers single person kayak rentals as well as kayaks for doubles and groups of three. Boats are available for rent on an hourly, daily and even weekly basis. Northwest Outdoor Center offers over 20 different styles of kayaks as well as wetsuits and booties to help keep your feet dry as you kayak your way down the waters of Puget Sound. The cost of rental includes boats, paddles, life jackets and additional necessary gear. Rental rates as of June 2010 ranged from single person kayaks priced at $70.00 per day to $250.00 for weekly rates to $90.00 per day for three person kayak boats.
