During the cold months, Michigan offers snowy landscapes, cozy cabins and a lively winter sports scene; vacation opportunities abound in the state for both nature lovers and adrenaline junkies.

    • With its over 40 ski resorts, "SKI" magazine has ranked Michigan as the top skiing destination in the Midwest. Michigan is also a popular place for snowboarding, a sport that was invented there in 1965.

    • The Michigan Tech Winter Carnival in Houghton, on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is one of the largest annual winter events in the state.
