The main branch of the New York Public Library in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on 5th Avenue is home to the expansive Rose Main Reading Room, possibly the largest mandatory quiet room in the entire city. In addition to wireless Internet service, the institution offers one of the broadest and most accessible research holdings in the entire world. The library's millions of holdings include the Gutenberg bible and manuscripts by Thomas Jefferson. Rain or shine, the main branch of the library is an ideal study location no matter what the subject. As of August 2010, the library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building opens at 10 am every day and closes at 6 pm on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, while remaining open until 9 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The facility is closed on Sunday.

Spring, summer, and warm days in early fall are ideal times to curl up with a text underneath one Central Parks 26,000 trees among 250 acres of green space. The landscaped park has many secluded areas that lend well to quiet study, including 9000 park benches. Students can take a break from studying for a quiet game of chess at the parks many outdoor tables. Sheltered picnic tables are located at the Dairy Visitor Center one of four centers in the park. The center also provides park maps to help students seek out their own quiet space.
