Travel Destinations for Warm Winter Vacations

Taking a warm winter vacation is a travel option for people who live in areas that typically get cold in the winter months. There are places throughout the United States that are warm during winter months which make them options for escaping colder areas in search of sunshine and warmth.

  1. Arizona

    • The state of Arizona, dotted with deserts throughout, is a warm winter vacation spot for people leaving colder states such as those on the Eastern seaboard. Winter daytime temperatures in Arizona average 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Some of the attractions in Arizona include the Grand Canyon which runs for 277 miles along the Colorado River. Hiking, trekking and sightseeing are all activities one can partake in while visiting the Grand Canyon. Scottsdale is another travel destination in Arizona suitable for winter as it is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, resorts, spas, golf courses and resorts. Flagstaff is another city suitable for winter travel and features cultural events and casinos. Sedona is a city in the very northern part of the state and is home to stunning red sandstone formations that mesmerize visitors. Tucson in the southe is for travelers that wish to take in attractions such as the University if Arizona sporting events and the multitude of museums and art exhibits in the area paying tribute to the Spanish culture.

    Florida Keys

    • The Florida Keys are the southernmost part of Florida. The Keys are a series of islands that jut out in to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures in the winter average 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit with lows only down to the mid-60's. The very last island in the string is Key West. It is a small island, accessible by bridge, that is only two miles by four miles in size. One could easily walk everywhere in Key West quite comfortably as the terrain is flat and the winter weather comfortable. Key West is home to attractions and activities such as Duval Street, Mallory Square, beaches, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, para sailing, the Ernest Hemingway House and a multitude of other cultural activities and venues. There are various lodging choices throughout the keys including private house rentals, bed and breakfasts, chain hotel and full service resorts.

    Hawaii

    • Hawaii is the most Western state in the United States and sits in the Pacific Ocean. Six major islands make up Hawaii even though the entire chain consists of more than one dozen islands. The Big Island is the largest body and includes popular tourist destinations such as the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which pays homage to the volcanoes that are spread throughout the island. Maui is another and is home to some of the most scenic beaches in Hawaii. Oahu is the island best known, housing Pearl Harbor, the North Shore which is a surfing staple and Diamond Head. Lodging choices vary widely throughout Hawaii and hotels, motels and condos can be found in all price ranges and in all areas. Temperatures during winter months average 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit which makes for a cool, comfortable climate to tour and travel around in.
