Visitors to central Texas who are looking for an authentic German restaurant need look no further than Fredericksburg. This town is located near the geographical center of the state and was founded by German immigrants who have kept their culture and traditions alive thousands of miles away from their native land. Lining Main Street in Fredericksburg are several restaurants that visitors and locals enjoy each day, and anyone in search of real German food shouldn't pass this area by.

  1. The Auslander

    • For more than 20 years The Auslander Biergarten and Restaurant has been among the popular dining spots in Fredericksburg. The authentic German menu includes traditional fare such as weinerschnitzel and knackwurst, but the kitchen also turns out popular fusion dishes that are not to be missed.

The Texaschnitzel, for example, is a traditional breaded pork loin prepared in the same way as a traditional German schnitzel, but it is smothered in ranchero sauce with Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream and guacamole.

The bar is open late and offers an impressive selection of draft beers from Germany, Belgium and right there in Texas.

The Auslander is open from 11am until 9pm every day except Wednesday and the bar stays open until midnight.
