Fredericksburg, Texas German Restaurants

Fredericksburg is a part of Hill Country in central Texas. Hill Country is known for its bluebonnets, wineries, natural attractions and Central European flavor. Primarily German, Austrian and Czech immigrants settled the area, and Fredericksburg holds its own annual German Oktoberfest. The city is home to several authentic German restaurants as well.

    • Auslander Biergarten and Restaurant has been a part of Fredericksburg for more than 20 years. Besides serving great food, wine and beer, Auslander has live music on Fridays and Saturdays and hosts the Spring Music Fest. The Auslander beer list features a large number of local beers, as well as beers from the Czech Republic, Mexico, Germany, England, Belgium and Ireland. The restaurant's wine list also has much from which to choose with red wines, white wines and blushes from California, Texas, Germany, Italy and Australia. The Auslander offers snacks, soups, salads, steaks, a children's menu and entrees such as knackwurst, pepperwurst, kassler ripchen (smoked pork chops), rouladen (rolled sliced beef) and "Texaschnitzel," pork loin served with a ranchero sauce.

    Der Lindenbaum

    • Der Lindenbaum is a fine dining restaurant owned by Chef Ingrid Hohmann, a classically trained European chef who studied at the Hotel and Restaurant School at Maria Laach in Germany. Der Lindenbaum offers more than 30 German beers and specialties such as sauerbraten, curry-huhn (curried chicken), pfeffersteak, Konigsberger klopse (meatballs in a caper sauce), gulasch and schnitzels. Der Lindenbaum is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner.

    Altdorf Biergarten

    • Altdorf Biergarten has been in Fredericksburg since 1977. The restaurant has four dining areas, including an outdoor dining area surrounded by large shade trees. Altdorf has Texas favorites like chicken fried steaks, enchiladas and burgers, along with more traditional German dishes such as smoked pork chops, wurst, schnitzels and schwalbennester which made up of sliced roast beef, bacon and ham wrapped around boiled eggs.

    Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn Restaurant

    • Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn is a small bed and breakfast that features its own restaurant and bar. The Friedhelm's menu specializes in German and Bavarian cuisine, such as rouladen, sauerbraten, schnitzels and bratwurst. Friedhelm's also serves prime rib and steaks including lendenschnitte), ribeye and New York strip. Guests can also find chicken, fish, shrimp and lamb dishes, along with burgers, salads and chicken fried steak.
