State Parks Near Stillwater, Minnesota

Stillwater, Minnesota is situated along the banks of the St. Croix River, about 30 miles from St. Paul. Stillwater is steeped in history dating back to 1848, 10 years before Minnesota became a state. The town is considered to be Minnesota's birthplace and features art galleries, antiques, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, wineries and shopping. Stillwater is near several of Minnesota's state parks, including William O'Brien State Park, Interstate State Park and Wild River State Park.

  1. William O'Brien State Park

    • William O'Brien State Park is located in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, 12 miles from Stillwater and one hour from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The park is, set along the St. Croix River, offers fishing, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, bird watching, camping and educational nature programs. Dogs, on a leash that is six feet or shorter, are allowed on the park's 12 miles of hiking trails. The park has drinking water available in various locations as well as bathroom facilities and showers that are open from mid-April until mid-October. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m..

    Interstate State Park

    • Interstate State Park is located about 30 miles from Stillwater in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. The park, situated along the St. Croix River, offers scenic views of the river, camping, fishing canoeing, snowshoeing, rock climbing, bird watching, wildflowers in the spring and fall foliage in the fall. There are four miles of hiking trails, a portion of which are handicapped accessible. There are 10 exposed lava flows in the park.

    Wild River State Park

    • Wild River State Park is located in Center City, Minnesota, 32 miles from Stillwater. The park sprawls for 18 miles along the St. Croix River and offers snowshoeing, skiing, educational programs, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, bird watching, plentiful wildlife, an overlook with views of Nevers Dam and wildflowers in the spring and summer. There are 35 miles of hiking trails, part of which are handicapped accessible. The park also offers a visitor's center and six camping cabins. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
