From mountain biking in the state forest to slowly making your way through the coastal towns in the south, New Jersey offers something for every biker to enjoy at every ability level.
Cape May offers an easy nine-mile bike ride around the town. The ride presents so much to see along the way that you may want to take a whole day or even two days to see everything that Cape May and the surrounding area has to offer.
The weather is best in the fall, especially September after the summer crowds are gone. In October, Cape May hosts a Victorian Week festival that includes home tours, craft shows and a square dancing contest. Highlights of the ride include the Cape May bird refuge, Sunset Beach and Cape May State Park.
This bike trail is in Atsion, which is part of the Pine Barrens, a wilderness area that covers almost one-quarter of the state. Close to 52 miles of bike trails crisscross this area, and they require intermediate biking skills. The best time to visit is summer or fall. Atsion is an area of sandy soil, pine trees and oak trees, but you'll also see cranberry bogs and blueberry fields.
This bike loop is in the northern part of Cape May County in Belleplain State Forest, an 11,000-acre pine tree preserve. This is one of New Jersey's largest camping destinations and is home to 20.1 miles of easy to intermediate bike trails. The best time to visit the national park is in the spring or fall, but the park attracts campers from all over the area in the summer. Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are within an hour's ride.
The often overlooked Cape May Court House is smaller and less populated than its highly popular neighbor Cape May, and it has more of a small-town atmosphere. Court House has 11.5 miles of easy bike trails. Attractions along the trail include the Cape May Museum, Cape May County Park, the Cape May Zoo and, of course, the courthouse.
