Expensive Restaurants in Buffalo, New York

The northern lakeside town of Buffalo, New York is a classic American working-class town. As far as culinary achievements go, most people might associate it with cheap, messy dishes like Buffalo wings. However, the city is home to a few restaurants in which the food is meticulously prepared and quite expensive.

  1. E.B. Green's Steakhouse

    • E.B. Green's is unarguably the elite steakhouse in Buffalo. In fact, it's been rated as one of the top 10 steakhouses in the entire country by Tom Horan's America's Top Ten Club. The restaurant is located next to the downtown Hyatt Regency, just a few blocks from Niagara Square. As a customer at E.B. Green's, you have the option of selecting your steak raw. Once it is cooked, the meat is rolled up on a cart and sliced right there at the table. The elegant meal does not come cheap, however. Their cheapest steak offering is $26, while the 40 oz porterhouse costs $77. E.B. Green's also serves seafood dishes, such as a whole fresh 2 lb lobster, priced at $79. This Buffalo steakhouse is available for private parties up to 50 people.

    Hutch's Restaurant

    • Named after chef and owner Mark Hutchinson, Hutch's Restaurant is a Buffalo mainstay for trendy and sophisticated dining. It's located near Gates Circle on busy Delaware Avenue. The inside features plenty of white tablecloths and modern art paintings hanging on exposed brick walls. Hutch's could be classified as American bistro cuisine. A lot of effort is put into the creation of each meal, which is reflected by the price. The beef tenderloin "au poivre" is priced at $32, while an entree of grilled prawns with linguine costs $25. Entrees from the "Specials" menu can be as high as $50. Hutch's Restaurant features a patio for warm-weather outdoor dining and its own fully stocked bar.

    The Left Bank

    • The Left Bank restaurant, in downtown Buffalo, captures the city's old-world charm. The brick building itself dates back to the 19th century. Although the name may be a nod to Parisian cafe life, most items are an amalgam of cultural cuisines. Twin Angus beef tournados with mushroom ragout, applewood smoked bacon and horseradish cheese costs $24, while the oven roasted filet of salmon with artichoke and toasted bread crumbs is priced at $19. The Left Bank also has an extensive list of fine wines, including the $72 Simi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 Sonoma.
