Family Winter Beach Vacations

Beach vacations are perfect for families. Children can play in wading areas, look for seashells, make sand castles or even go wildlife viewing. Adults can soak in some sun, surf or swim. And, taking a winter beach vacation allows families to get out of cold climates and enjoy some warmer temps. Winter is often the high season for many beach vacations.

  1. All-Inclusive Mexican Beach Resorts

    • All-inclusive resorts allow families to pay one price for the hotel, meals and entertainment. Many of these resorts offer kid’s clubs or kid's programs, where families can book rooms that have toys in the room and video games. Family-friendly tours of the area may also be included in the price. All these resorts also have pools, where younger children can go swimming if they are too young for the ocean.

Since these are beach resorts, families will be within walking distance of many beaches. Mexico beaches, especially in the Yucatan Peninsula, are often rated some of the best beaches in the world. During the winter, families do not need to worry about hurricanes or other tropical storms. Winter is the high season for Mexican beaches. Mexico weather averages between 50 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and above. Water temperatures range from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit during winter.

    Hawaii Beaches

    • Hawaii Beaches

Hawaii beaches make for great family vacations during the winter, especially with ambient temperatures that only go down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. Winter water temperatures for Hawaii range from 77 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter.

Hawaii has some all-inclusive resorts, but they do not offer quite as many amenities as most other types of all-inclusive resorts. They do, however, offer kid's programs that include activities for children and even escorted family-friendly tours around the islands. Waikiki is one of the most inexpensive islands for families to visit, and it has many resorts that are more affordable than the other islands.

Hawaii beaches offer a number of family-friendly beach activities. Families can go snorkeling and see tropical fish and other sea life. Biking around the island is also another possibility for older children. Sea kayaking can be enjoyed by children of all ages. Families can also play in the sand or go swimming in the ocean. Hawaii is a popular tourist destination year round.

    Florida Beaches

    • Florida is a major family tourist destination with a number of theme parks, including Walt Disney World. Part of the Disney resort complex is Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. This resort is part of the Disney Vacation Club, which is similar to a time share. At this resort, visitors can go boating on the water, swim in one of the resort’s pools, play in the sand or go swimming in the ocean. Plus, the resort is within a couple of hours of Orlando and the theme parks.

Space Coast is near the Kennedy Space Center from where the shuttle takes off. Visitors can walk along the beaches, surf, look for seashells or play in the ocean. Further, families can also visit the nature preserves in the area, dig for fossils at the Dinosaur Store, go to the local zoo or visit the Andretti Thrill Park. Since winter is the off season for Florida, the beaches will not be packed, allowing families more leisure time to enjoy the beaches themselves.

Water temperatures during the winter are between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the Gulf of Mexico, and generally in the mid to high 50-degrees-Fahrenheit range for the Atlantic Ocean. Florida temperatures are usually in the mid 70-degrees-Fahrenheit range, but the area can have some colder days.
