The Cheapest Places to Travel in June

June is a tricky month for traveling. On one hand, most kids are out of school beginning in early June, so they will not miss any class to take a family trip. On the other hand, attractions/destinations know that kids are out of school, so they often increase prices for this time period. Before planning any trip, make sure to research your destination so that you know what to expect in terms of costs and things to do.

  1. General Tips

    • In general, any place that has kid-friendly attractions (such as theme parks) will be most expensive in June and the summer months because the kids are out of school. If you are looking to travel in June and save money, select a destination that is not geared specifically to children and families. Also, many parts of the country have excellent weather in June, so tropical destinations are not as desired (and are often less expensive), simply because the weather is not as big of a factor. People looking to escape frigid temperatures will do so when it is cold out, and not during the summer, so tropical destinations often offer lower rates during the summer.

    U.S. Destinations

    • There are a handful of destinations in the U.S. to visit in June that are cheaper than at other times of the year. Try Vail, Colorado or just about any other ski town. Since all of the mountain ski runs are closed, visitors can get off-season rates, often as low as half-off regular rates. Many restaurants also offer great deals such as buy one entree and get one free, and so on.

Dallas, Texas is also a great June destination for travelers on a budget. The city offers excellent cuisine and dining options (BBQ, Mexican and more) and a fantastic art district to stroll through. The temperature gets hot but not as hot as in July and August. Dallas has great museums and sightseeing and offers activities for just about everyone. Many hotels reduce their prices as much as 15 percent in June.

Columbia, South Carolina is a family-friendly city without all of the family tourist traps. Hotel rates are expected to be about 22 percent lower than normal in June, and families can enjoy various museums and outdoor activities.

    Interntaional Destinations

    • Egypt has always been a popular destination for travelers looking to experience ancient history and one of man's most awe-inspiring accomplishments: the Egyptian Pyramids. Aside from the Pyramids, Egypt offers travelers a relaxing experience lounging by the Red Sea or a trip down the Nile River to take in Egyptian culture. Hotels prices are down about 38 percent in June.

The Caribbean is also a great place to travel to in June. While some islands are U.S. territory, others, such as St. Maarten and Grenada, are territories of European countries. Traveling to these islands is a great way to experience European culture in a Caribbean island setting. And, due to warm weather all over the northern hemisphere, the Caribbean islands are often less expensive during June than in the winter months.
