The "Lone Star State," Texas offers a number of options for incredible vacations and travel. Top tourist choices include the Dallas-Fort Worth "Metroplex" and San Antonio. For those traveling on a tight budget, Texas offers some great times as well.
The Metroplex is the term for the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the eighteen cities and municipalities interconnecting them. The area accounts for over 30 percent of travel to the state, according to Expedia. Top tours for the area include Reunion Tower and the Sixth Floor Museum. Both of these can be visited in one day in downtown Dallas. Reunion Tower offers a 360-degree view from over 70 stories up. The Sixth Floor Museum is dedicated to the study of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Other high rating tourist destinations include the Dallas Arboretum (nominated for several national awards for its mix of flora and fauna) and the Dallas Zoo.
While in the Metroplex, visitors can't miss a trip over to the Fort Worth Stockyards where cattle auctions continue year-round with many museums and attractions explaining the cowboy, the Old West and the cattle industry. Nightly rodeos display of the arts of the cowboy.
San Antonio is another major attraction area for visitors to Texas. The city offers not only the historically significant Alamo, but a beautiful River Walk area and Sea World of Texas. The Alamo was originally built in 1718. The famous River Walk is located just off of the Alamo and contains various shops, cafes and colorful floating tourist boats. SeaWorld of Texas offers brings new features to its visitors every season including its famed killer whale, Shamu. Along with a myriad of aquatic animals, the park also offers a waterpark and rides and rollercoasters.
The financially challenged Texas tourist is in luck for a number of low cost options. One strategy is to enjoy the free and low cost options of Texas and travel to its vast state and national parks. For example, the Padre Island National Seashore offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States where one can find 14 days of camping for just the cost of park entrance. Tubing the Guadalupe River is a very popular activity and can be enjoyed by stopping off just north of San Antonio in Gruene, Texas.
