Perched along the shores of the Monterey Bay and just four miles from the Pacific Ocean, Monterey, California offers both natural beauty and waterside attractions. With its host of family-friendly activities, including Cannery Row and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Monterey region draws nearly four million tourists each year.
Situated along the shores of Monterey Bay, Cannery Row developed in the early 1900s with the emergence of the town's fishing industry. As a result, a series of canneries opened along the street, although most fell into demise following World War II. Modern-day Cannery Row features these restored canneries now serving as shops, hotels, spas and restaurants, the latter of which serve up such cuisine as seafood, Italian and Mexican fare. The area also plays host to the Monterey Aquarium and an IMAX Theatre.
