RV Camping in Bodega Bay, California

Bodega Bay, California, owns a place in film lore. The craggy, fog shrouded coastal village impressed celebrated director Alfred Hitchcock so much that he made it the backdrop for one of his chilling films, “The Birds.” Though the area is more built up than back in the 1960s, the Tides restaurant, used in the film, still stands. Some visitors come to this very wild part of the California coast in search of a bit of film nostalgia. Others look forward to strolling the beaches, going fishing or playing a little golf. Either way, RV owners will find an assortment of campgrounds in and around Bodega Bay.
  1. RV Campgrounds in Town

    • Bodega Bay RV Park is an upscale campground that can handle even the largest Class A rigs. The centrally located park is 2 miles from the Bodega Harbor Golf Course and less than 1 mile from the Porto Bodega Marina. Play horseshoes, bocce ball or have a go in the gaming arcade. Dine out at the Tides restaurant, about a mile away. Campsites offer full or partial hookups and picnic tables -- most sites are shaded. It’s only a five-minute drive or half-hour walk to the beach. Westside Regional Park, part of the Sonoma County Regional Parks, offers another option in Bodega Bay. This is bare-bones camping with no hookups, but campers enjoy direct ocean access. Launch your boat from the on-site ramp and get all your fishing needs next door at the Spud Point Marina. The largest campsites are 50 feet long and can accommodate most rigs. Reservations are advised during the busy season and can be made on the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department's website.

Doran Regional Park – Boater’s Delight

    • Ample parking and a ramp that can handle boats up to 20 feet in length make Doran Regional Park a favorite of recreational boaters, fishermen and crabbers. Combine this with RV camping within steps of a 2-mile-long beach and you have the perfect outdoor adventure. Located about 1 mile south of Bodega Bay’s core, this is a semi-wilderness camping experience. Campsites have no hookups, but restrooms and showers are available. The largest campsites are 40-foot long and can accommodate most Class A rigs. The Miwok Campground is a tent-only spot, while the Jetty Campground features spaces that work for both RVs and tents. Reservations, not required but advised, are available online at the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department’s website.

California State Park Camping – Sonoma Coast

    • Roughly 6 miles north of Bodega Bay sit two California State Park campgrounds suitable for RVs. The road down to Wright’s Beach has a tight hairpin turn, which limits RV length to 27 feet. The campground offers no hookups, but restrooms and running water are available. Campers are allowed use of showers at nearby Bodega Dunes. The latter campground allows RVs up to 31 feet and also has an RV dump station but no hookups. Reservations for both campgrounds are advised and available through Reserve America. The beaches that stretch along both campgrounds range from sandy to pebbly and are great for beach combing or just taking nice long walks. Dogs, which much be leashed at all times, are allowed at both campgrounds but not on the beach. There is a healthy raccoon population in the area, so keep your pets inside at night and stow all your food in the RV.

    Lawson’s Landing – Dillon Beach

    • Sitting roughly 8 miles south of Bodega Bay, Lawson’s Landing is a privately owned campground next to Dillon Beach, part of the Point Reyes National Seashore. This stretch of sand is known for its clam fishing. At low tide during the spring and fall, campers and day visitors pull on the waders and head out to the gooey flats with buckets and shovels in hand. The campground offers restrooms and water faucets but no hookups. Camping spots feature picnic tables and fire rings and most are within steps of the sand. Reservations are available via the company’s website, but you are welcome to just show up. An attendant will assign you a spot if available. If you arrive late, find an open spot of your own and you’ll be assigned the next day. Leashed dogs are allowed in the campground but not on the beach. The closest grocery store is at the Dillon Beach Resort, about a mile away.
