California is definitely RV friendly because so many of the lakeside campsites provide for motor homes, trailers and fifth wheels. At some of these RV parks, campers can pull their RV right up to the shores of the lake so that it is literally a step or two from your back door to the water's edge. Some parks are situated in secluded areas among the trees, giving campers a calm and serene atmosphere to relax in. Most campgrounds that cater to RVs have full hook-ups, which usually include all or a combination of electricity, water and seweage. Occasionally, there will be a choice of electrical service in the form of 30 amps or 50 amps. Other services that are often offered are cable or satellite TV, Internet access, laundry facilities, showers and restrooms.
The campgrounds that are located on lakes in California often have courtesy boat launches, docks and moorings. Some parks are RV parks and full marinas as well and here campers who don't own a boat can usually rent the desired watercraft. On most lakes kayaking, boating, canoeing and swimming is allowed. A few of the lakes have restrictions due to their small size or due to shore erosion concerns, but on a lot of the larger lakes and man-made lakes jet skiing, para-sailing and water skiing are common activities.
A hugely popular sport conducted on many California lakes is fishing. Some RV campers rent boats and just cruise on the lake and fish for relaxation and enjoyment purposes. Others come to the lakes to participate in the many fishing competitions that are offered across the state. These competitions can include fishing for the largest fish or trying to catch a fish with a tag proclaiming a cash prize. Many of the parks have catch and release restrictions to protect the fish populations.
For RV campers who like camping beside bodies of water but prefer to keep their feet dry there are many land activities that are available. Some are offered by the RV parks themselves while others are usually just a short distance away. Activities include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Some of the more extreme pastimes include rock climbing, abseiling, mountain climbing, motor cross and ATV trail riding.
RV travelers don't always come to California lakes for the activities. They often come for the relaxation and to observe California's flora and fauna. Nature lovers come from all over the country to seek out species that are indigenous to California. The lakes also attract a lot of artists who are looking for inspiration or want to capture the beauty of the lakes, mountains and sunsets.
