RV camping in Morro Bay, Calif., on the Pacific Coast between Santa Barbara and San Francisco, is a special treat. Flanked by farms on the east and the ocean on the west, visitors to this attractive little community enjoy life far from the big city. The area is home to some fine vineyards, and the bay is a thriving sanctuary for birds and marine life. The Hearst Castle is less than 30 miles north on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The campground at Morro Bay State Park has more than 125 spaces, but only 27 have water and electric hookups (50 amp). While Wi-Fi is available in the vicinity of the ranger station, it doesn't reach all the camp sites. The park is very near the marina and docks in a woodsy setting. Families, pets and big rigs are welcome.

Some campers might call the campground at Montana de Oro State Park, six miles south of Morro Bay, "primitive," although it is a developed facility that can accommodate rigs up to 27 feet. None of the 50 sites has water, sewer or electric service, and the on-site toilets are of the pit variety. Still, RVers with a generator and freshwater tank probably won't mind. The campground is open seasonally from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Guests have access to free wireless Internet access and 70 channels of cable television, although with the bay only steps away, television may not be the primary attraction at this park. Pets are welcome for an additional fee.

Cypress Morro Bay RV and MHP is right in town, about four blocks from the waterfront. The park has 36 sites with 15- and 30-amp electric service. Guests describe it as "quaint" and point out that it isn't a resort park. On the other hand, everything in town is within walking distance, including the farmer's market, the library and some of the town's best dining. The friendly hosts welcome pets and offer guests Wi-Fi Internet connections and cable television.
