Allendale is located in northeastern New Jersey. With New York City an hour away by train and even less by car, Allendale has the feel of a cosmopolitan small town. There are a surprising number of restaurants for a town of less than 7,000. You can enjoy authentic deli food, great pizza and upscale dining without ever leaving the town limits.
Restaurant L took over the area's historic landmark, the Turnpike Tavern, and turned it into an upscale dining establishment and neighborhood bar. The food, a mixture of Italian favorites, fresh seafood and grilled meats, is excellent. Salads and soups start at $9 (as of March 2010), with entrees around $25. You can also enjoy a three-course prix fix dinner for $24 and a two-course prix fixe lunch for $15. Dinner is served nightly, and lunch is served every day except Sunday.
