Duck Tours in Austin, Texas allow you to the see city from land and water. A tour guide takes you on a trip in a Coast Guard approved Hydra Terra vehicle. You learn the history of Austin while having fun with the whole family. Tours are handled by Duck Adventures, which has been in business for more than 10 years.
Duck Tours last about one hour and 15 minutes and depart from the Austin Visitor Information Center. The tour, which 300,000 people have experienced, travels down Historic Sixth Street, and gives riders views of the State Capitol Building, Bob Bullock State History Museum, the Governor's Mansion and more. Then the Hydra Terra vehicle enters onto Lake Austin for a great view from the water.
The Hydra Terra was recently improved by putting the driver in the center, allowing for better visibility. The handling and load capacity was upgraded with a Reyco/Granning IFS1200 independent front suspension and rear suspension system. The entire carpeted floor was soundproofed with a lead septum sound barrier blocking the engine noise. The vehicles can be one-, two- or three-engine units and the steering features hydraulic cylinders to move the rudder port and starboard allowing for improved control.
Tours regularly run Monday and Tuesday at 2 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The summer schedule (June-Labor Day) is: Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Additional tour times may be scheduled if all times have sold out. Parking is located at the St. David's Episcopal Parking Garage (between 7th and 8th on Trinity.)
