The sunny climate of Texas is ideal for growing wine grapes. There are a number of vineyards and wineries throughout Texas, and beyond producing wine they also are popular tourist destinations. As of 2009 there were 181 wineries in Texas, according to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Texas wine tours are offered throughout the state, and some of them start in the city of Austin.

    • Wine Tours of Texas is an Austin-based company that runs tours of Texas wineries using a fleet of limousines. Options include a Ford Excursion SUV and Lincoln Town Car. Wine Tours of Texas offers full-day, half-day and custom tours to vineyards such as Fall Creek Vineyards, Lost Creek Vineyards, Spicewood Vineyards and Texas Hills Vineyards. Tours begin in Austin, although customized tours can start in other cities. Prices vary depending on vehicle and tour chosen.

    Urban Taste Tours

    • Urban Taste Tours, located in Austin, offers a citywide wine tour via pedicab, a small cart pulled behind a bicycle or taxi. Tours include pick-up and drop-off anywhere in downtown Austin, transportation throughout the city, wine flight and cheese plate at each destination and wine education from staff members. The price as of September 2010 is $80 per person, with discounted group rates. Urban Taste Tours also offers other wine tours in the city, including The Connoisseur, a tour for the wine savvy; The Honey Moon, a romantic wine tour; and The Bachelorette, a wine tour geared for groups of girlfriends.
