The Ohio River forms the state of Ohio's southern-most border and gives visitors to the area the opportunity to grab a dish or a drink at one of the many bars that dot the riverside. Watch the boats go by, enjoy a cool breeze on a hot summer night or dance the night away while sipping a local twist on an age-old drink at a bar on the river in southern Ohio.

The full-service bar features a variety of specialty concoctions and frozen drinks, like the Lava Flow and Caribbean Cosmo, and carries a wide selection of draft, domestic and imported beers, such as Sam Adams, Budweiser and Newcastle. If you're feeling a tad hungry, Cabana also has a full food menu, including soups, salads, sandwiches and light dinner fare. During the warmer months, listen to live music under the lighted, neon palm trees. As of March 2009, Cabana on the River opens at 11 a.m. and stays hoping until the wee hours of the night. The bar has no official closing time.

    Jim and Jack's on the River

    • If 1950s and 60s music is what you love, stop by Jim and Jack's on the River on River Road in Cincinnati. The bar features a live band every weekend and an Elvis impersonator on the first Sunday of the month. Get to the bar early to enjoy happy hour pricing on beer, well drinks and appetizers. Sit out on the deck and sample some steak, fish or a rack of ribs and then dance the night away on the large dance floor inside. Jim and Jack's is a nonsmoking facility.

    • A sports bar and grill located in Cincinnati, Drew's on the River is a casual neighborhood bar with an outdoor patio for those hot, summer nights. Grab a burger and fries or an order of cajun-style or breaded wings to go with your draft beer before the live music starts on weekend nights. If a quieter sound is what you crave, sit out on the patio and listen to a tune from a local guitarist while you watch the historic Anderson Ferry cross the Ohio River.
