How to Measure Linear Baggage DiMen'sions
If you are traveling by air you will find that your airline has specific rules for baggage. Bags must adhere to size restrictions put in place by each individual airline or risk rejection or excess baggage fees. Airlines feature similar size restrictions, though some may vary by a few inches depending on the airline. Your luggage must be smaller than or equal to certain linear dimensions. Call your airline or visit its website to find out the specifics for baggage size before your flight.

Gather your luggage and a tape measure that measures in inches. If the handle on your luggage is out, push it in. It does not count towards your size limit therefore it does not need measuring.

Measure the length of your baggage, the height of your baggage and the depth of your baggage. Make note of each length in inches.

3
Add the height, width and depth of your luggage together. This is the method to determining your baggage's linear measurement.
