Airline Passenger Travel Regulations

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has regulations stipulating what items passengers can bring on flights. Proof of identification and travel documents are also required by the TSA when traveling.
  1. Prohibited Items

    • As of 2010, the following items are prohibited to in carry-on luggage by the TSA: sharp objects including knives, box cutters, scissors, cleavers and swords; sporting goods including baseball bats, ski poles, pool cues, hockey sticks, golf clubs and spear guns; firearms and ammunition; tools including axes, hatchets, saws, crowbars and hammers; martial arts and self-defense items; explosive materials, flammable items and chemicals.

    Liquids

    • Liquids must be packed in a checked bag. If liquids are brought in a carry-on bag, they must be in 3.4 ounce bottles and placed in a quart-sized, clear, plastic bag. One plastic bag per passenger is permitted.

    Identification

    • Adult passengers must present a U.S. federal or state-issued photo identification to be checked in for their flight. Acceptable forms of identification include a driver's license, passport or military ID card. Check the TSA website to see the full list of accepted forms of identification.
