Ethiopian Airlines Safety

Ethiopian Airlines has been in existence since 1945. It is headquartered at Bole International Airport. As of 2010, it flies to more than 50 destinations around the world, as well as more than 35 destinations domestically. In 2011, Ethiopian Airlines is scheduled to become a member of Star Alliance.

    • The United States Federal Aviation Administration accredits Ethiopian Airlines. Its registration number is ETIY 102F.

    Safety Record

    • According to the BBC, unlike many African airlines, Ethiopian Airlines has a good safety record. Prior to the recent crash in 2010 when a plane went down in the Mediterranean Sea, the last crash took place in 1996 during a hijacking when the plane ran out of fuel.

    Aircraft

    • Ethiopian Airlines only uses Boeing aircraft. It was the first airline in Africa to order the 787 Dreamliner and 777-200LR models. The latter is intended for long-range journeys.
