Originally, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines were one entity. Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, as the airline was named, was a joint effort between the governments of Malaysia and Singapore. The intergovernmental airline union lasted for six years before the countries formerly separated airlines.
Because of its historic ties and close proximity, Malaysia Airlines is still a major air travel provider to and from Singapore. Travelers flying between Malaysia and Singapore experience many of the amenities of domestic flights, such as the airlines' Special Assistance Crew for Young Passengers Traveling Alone.
Malaysia Airlines offers routes from Singapore to more than 100 cities worldwide. Many connections are within the region, including destinations such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Indonesia. However, there also are routes to faraway countries such as Ireland, Sweden and South Africa.
