On the Northern island of Luzon, PAL flies to Naga, with long coral beaches, Loaog with its Spanish colonial Old Town, and Legaspi, gateway to Mayon Volcano and its near-perfect cone. In the Central islands, major destinations include Cebu, the oldest city in the country, Tacloban with its many religious celebrations, and Iloilo, with the oldest golf course in the country and many music festivals. Finally, on the Southern island of Mindanao, PAL goes to Davao, home of the Philippine Eagle, Cotabato, a center for rice and sugarcane, and Cagayan de Oro with its protected rainforests and wildlife. PAL flies to only five destinations in North America, all of which have sizeable Filipino populations. Vancouver, British Columbia, is the largest city in Western Canada. San Francisco has cable cars and the Golden Gate Bridge. Los Angeles is the movie and TV capital of the world. Las Vegas has casinos and shows. Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii, with its famous Waikiki Beach. (See Reference 2.)
Cities in Asia form the bulk of PAL's international destinations. In China, it goes to Shanghai, with its colonial buildings, Beijing, the country's modern capital, and Hong Kong, a major financial center. Japan destinations include Tokyo, which contains over 10 percent of the country's population, Osaka, with its many cultural monuments, and Fukuoka, a major urban center. In Australia, the airline reaches Sydney, the country's largest city, Brisbane, known for its parklands, and Melbourne, a major industrial center. Other important destinations include Singapore, a major port, Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, Bangkok, the heart of Thailand, and Taipei, capital of Taiwan. (See Reference 2.)
PAL serves five destinations in the Middle East: Dubai, UAE, is a modern tourism center; Abu Dhabi mixes hills, valleys, and sand dunes with boutiques and parks. Bahrain is a country of 33 islands. Doha, Qatar, is known for its world-class golf course and tennis stadium. Riyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia. (See Reference 2.)
