How to Get to the Dulles International Airport Without a Car

Dulles International Airport is one of three major airports that serve the Washington, D.C. metro area. The DC Metrorail only serves Reagan National. Baltimore-Washington International and Dulles have to be reached by other means. If you can't get to Dulles by car, the city has other public transportation options.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the 5A bus route, which has stops at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro and Rosslyn Metro (both are on the Orange/Blue line). The 5A bus is an express route to Dulles Airport, but it can take from 45 minutes to over an hour from the Rosslyn Metro station, depending on traffic. The cost is the regular charge for the Metrobus.

Take the DC Metrorail to the West Falls Church Metro (Orange Line). Once you exit, follow the signs to catch the Washington Flyer Coach, which goes directly to the main terminal at Dulles Airport. The shuttle bus departs every 30 minutes. As of 2011, the cost was $10 one way or $18 round-trip.

Schedule a Super Shuttle trip if you want to bypass public transportation. The Super Shuttle will pick you up from your location and drop you off at the airport on your schedule. The cost can vary depending on the number of passengers and mileage, but can run from $30 to $100.
