Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Linthicum, Maryland, is about 10 miles south of Baltimore and 30 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. BWI is about as close to downtown Washington as Dulles Airport. Getting to and from Washington from BWI is pretty simple without a car. There are several options, and the best option depends on how much money you are willing to spend.
The MARC train runs from Union Station at Massachusetts Avenue and First Street in downtown Washington to the BWI Marshall Rail Station. The light rail runs on weekdays only as of 2011.
Take the Airport Shuttle, Inc. or the Super Shuttle. These are privately-owned enterprises and more expensive than any other option except a cab. They will provide door-to-door service to a hotel, though you may have to share the ride with several other people.
Use the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Airport Express service. The Metrobus 5A goes to Dulles and Baltimore-Washington. Check the schedule for updates on schedules and prices.
Take a taxi. This is more expensive than a shuttle service, but convenient if you are willing to spend the money. Not all cab companies in the Washington D.C. area are licensed to go to the airport. As of 2011, the BWI offered a 24-hour luxury sedan service to and from downtown Washington.
Take Amtrak from Union Station. The Amtrak train goes faster than the MARC train, but does cost more.
