Today, you can choose from several options when it comes to buying plane tickets. You will want to go with the company or airline that offers you the best seat, amenities and time frame for the lowest price.
Do compare prices before committing to purchasing your ticket. Finalize your ticket purchase only after you've explored all your travel options and fares available. Keep in mind, however, that airline prices change on a daily basis. Do all your research within the same hour for consistency and to get the best deals.
Consult the Internet ticket mainstays like Priceline, Orbitz and Expedia. Type in the travel dates, airports for takeoff and landing, times of day that work best and seat preferences. Be as flexible as you can and try different scenarios. You'll receive price quotes, usually dozens at a time in a similar price range.
Call the airlines at your local airport as well. Smaller airlines like Southwest and JetBlue sometimes will offer you a better deal than the one you found online.
Visit the websites of different airlines. You may get a different price on the Internet. If this is lower, you can call them directly to negotiate a lower price.
Go to the airport. Inquire about fares in-person at airline terminals. Airline personnel can explore different options for you and can sometimes make better deals. Be kind and courteous if you want the same treatment in return.
Fly standby if you are purchasing a last-minute ticket. This used to be a popular, inexpensive way of traveling before Sept. 11. But be aware that this is not always least expensive way to travel and can be more of a hassle.
