The Los Angeles International Airport, abbreviated as LAX, is the city's largest airport. According to Los Angeles World Airports, LAX ranks sixth on the list of the world's most-traveled airports. LAX has two stories, with the top handling departures, and arrivals taking place on the lower level. It has nine passenger terminals as well as restaurants, newsstands, cocktail lounges and gift shops and is surrounded by hotels and motels.

As the Los Angeles area's second-largest airport, Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport (ONT) is a medium-size, full-service airport with domestic and international flights. It is about 35 miles outside downtown Los Angeles in Southern California's Inland Empire. With more than 220 flights daily, the airport handled more than 7 million passengers in 2006, according to Los Angeles World Airports.

Bob Hope Airport in Burbank offers direct flights to many West Coast destinations and New York and also offers connecting and one-stop flights all over the country. Located in Burbank, it is the closest airport to downtown Los Angeles. It was named after the famous comedian and actor, Bob Hope.

As the area's smallest commercial airport, the Long Beach Airport services about 3 million passengers a year and offers direct and connecting flights throughout the United States. In early 2010, the airport began undergoing construction to make it more modern and passenger friendly.
