What is a deposit of sediment that forms on the inside stream meander?
A point bar is a deposit of sediment that forms on the inside stream meander. Point bars are formed when water carrying sediment flows around a bend in the river. The water velocity decreases on the inside of the bend, causing sediment to be deposited. Point bars are often found on the inside of oxbow lakes, which are U-shaped bends in rivers that have been cut off from the main channel.
