How to Rig a Marshall CAT 22

People enjoy relaxing cruises on a Marshall CAT 22. The boat has one mast with rigging lines that allow for easy sailing along coves and inlets. The boat has a simple design that allows for fewer people to control the sails, and is often used as more of a small luxury cruiser or fishing boat instead of a racer. Most Marshall CAT boats have a peak halyard, throat halyard, topping lift and lazy jack lines.

Instructions

    • 1

Wax the mast by spraying mast wax along the beam. Rub a clean cloth over the mast to buff the surface and remove extra residue.

    • 2

Attach the peak halyard to the top of the mast from the Harken 146 block to the bowline with pan-head screws. Hook the throat halyard eyelet onto the Harken 147 block latch.

    • 3

Pull the throat halyard line down through the Harken 146 block and through the saddle. Thread the throat halyard up to the outside of the Harken 147 block and through the saddle. Bring the throat halyard down the mast to the gooseneck joint.

Secure the topping lift line 34.5 inches from the top of the mast by screwing in the pan-head screws to the 30-D4 check block on the port side of the sail. Tie the topping lift line down to the forward mainsheet bail.

Secure the lazy jack line, which is an arrow-shaped rope rig with one point at the top and two points at the bottom of the entire line, to the mast and boom. Measure 5 feet down the top of the mast. Wrap the the top arrow point of the lazy jack line to the mast by tying the line through the Schaefer 78-66 eye straps.

Tie the bottom point ends of the lazy jack line to the boom. Measure 6 feet along the boom where it connects to the mast. Tie the left bottom point end of the lazy jack line through the Schaefer 78-66 eye strap on the boom. Measure 7 feet along the boom at the opposite end. Tie the right bottom point end of the lazy jack line through the Schaefer 78-66 eye strap on the boom.
