Contact the airline that you will be using for transporting your cat at least two weeks prior to the date you want to ship. Make reservations for the animal by providing contact information about yourself and the person who will be picking up the animal upon its arrival. Write down the reservation number and confirmation number that the airline gives you.
Purchase a sturdy pet kennel that is big enough to allow the cat to sit, turn around, and lay down in a natural manner; has ventilation holes on three sides; is leakproof; and has a door that latches but does not lock. Line the bottom of the kennel with absorbant material. Affix "Live Animal" stickers to the sides of the kennel and write information regarding the animals recepient on the top of the kennel.
Take the cat to your veterinarian and obtain a health certificate within 10 days of the animals shipping date. Verify that the health certificate states that the animal is free from contagious diseases, is healthy enough to ship, is current on its immunizations, and contains information regarding the cat's destination.
Take the cat in the carrier to the airport at least two hours before the animals scheduled flight. Provide the shipping agent with your reservation number and personal identification. Attach the food and water containers to the inside of the carrier and give the agent additional food for the animal. Complete the necessary airline paperwork and pay the shipping cost.
