In the Battle Shiloh why was it in Tennessee?

The Battle of Shiloh was fought in Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee, not in Nashville. The battle was fought on April 6-7, 1862, between the Union Army of the Tennessee under General Ulysses S. Grant and the Confederate Army of Mississippi under General Albert Sidney Johnston. The battle was the first major engagement in the Western Theater of the American Civil War and resulted in a Union victory.
