Wheelchair Accessible Bus Tours in Paris, France

Although wheelchair accessible tours, hotels and facilities are less common in Europe, and particularly Paris, than in the United States, many bus services have introduced mobility accommodations in recent years to assist more passengers in experiencing the sites of Paris. Two bus tours have some degree of wheelchair access, as does the Paris public transit system. Contact tours in advance to ensure that wheelchair access will be available.
  1. Les Cars Rouges

    • Les Cars Rouges is a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of Paris that visits the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Notre Dame and several other notable attractions. One third of the buses have wheelchair access on the lower deck. Buses run every 10 minutes in the summer and every 20 minutes in the winter. Tickets are good for two consecutive days of use. Audio commentary is also available to passengers in multiple languages, with information about the destinations where the Cars Rouges stop as well as sites where buses don't stop, so that passengers can use the audio guides to make the most of their trip both on and off the bus. Travelers to Paris can book tickets on Car Rouges in advance online to receive a discount, and the buses are available for groups and private tours.

L'Opentour has only one wheelchair-accessible bus, which runs the Green Line Grand Tour. This line includes many of the major Paris sites, including the Lourve Museum, Champs-Elysees, Notre Dame, the Opera and the Eiffel Tower--with 19 sites on the grand tour route. Buses arrive at the stops every 10 minutes during the summer months and every 25 to 30 minutes in the winter. Audio commentary is provided in 10 languages. Passengers may choose a one-day or two-day pass when they purchase their tickets. L'Opentour requests that passengers contact them in advance to ensure that the wheelchair accessible bus will be running during their trip.

    Paris Public Transit

    • The Paris Metro, RER and train stations, as well as the Paris bus lines, offer some wheelchair accessible transportation options to travelers who wish to be more self-guided. The Metro Line 14 and RER E are both fully accessible--passengers in wheelchairs can access all stations and can roll on and off the trains without assistance. Some Paris bus lines are also fully accessible to passengers in wheelchairs. All buses on accessible lines have wheelchair loading ramps and the ability to kneel. Bus stops with wheelchair access are marked with a wheelchair symbol, and bus stops without wheelchair access are marked with a yellow caution sign.
