Charter Bus Safety Tips for Children

When children attend a private school, they must get used to charter buses. To make sure that your children are safe, teach them these simple safety rules for charter buses.
  1. Getting on a Charter Bus

    • When you are waiting for the bus, make sure to stay by the bus stop, well away from the curb. Prepare your money beforehand so that you won't be tempted to find it while walking to the bus. Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop and for the door to open before approaching. Look both ways before stepping off the curb.

    Riding on a Charter Bus

    • While on a charter bus, you must make sure to stay in your seat at all times, even though there are no seatbelts. If you are standing, the bus driver may not be able to see out of the back window, which can cause an accident. In addition, the driver may be distracted by loud noises, so make sure to keep your voice low. Listen quietly to any instructions that the driver gives, and follow them carefully.

    Getting Off a Charter Bus

    • When you get off a charter bus, it is important to be very careful. Before the bus arrives at your stop, make sure that you have gathered up all of your belongings. Wait until the bus stops to cross in front of it. Make sure that the bus driver sees that you're leaving, and make sure none of your belongings get caught in the door as you leave. Walk directly to the sidewalk, even if you intend to cross the street afterward, as cars may speed past the bus on the opposite side.
