Why is the city Boston called Boston?

Boston is named after the town of Boston, Lincolnshire in England. The name is derived from the Old English word "Botolph's town", after Saint Botolph, a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon monk who founded a monastery on the site of the present-day city of Boston in England. The name was given to the American city by the early English colonists who founded it in 1630.
