PSV Training Schools

As in the United States, you'll have to go through a few hoops and pay a few fees before becoming a bus driver in the United Kingdom. Once you get your provisional license to begin driving a passenger-carrying or passenger-service vehicle (PCV or PSV) from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, you'll need to take a training course and pass a driving test. Scores of sanctioned schools offer the tests, training and mandated theory tests you'll need.
  1. Fast Track HGV

    • This chain of lorry and bus training schools has more than 40 locations across the United Kingdom. The company has a five-day training cycle, with licensing performed on the final day. Practical and classroom lessons are combined, as in all sanctioned schools. Fast Track HGV also says its tuition is Driver Standards Agency-approved.

    Hughes Driver Training

    • This driver training school offers training in the East Midlands area, with other locations in Loughborough and Leicester. It doesn't pledge to train in five days, but it doesn't pledge not to. On its website, it states that "course length will depend on your ability and previous experience."

    Guaranteed Pass

    • Like most other larger driving training schools, Guaranteed Pass offers training for tractor-trailer (LGV/HGV) and for PCV/PSV drivers. It maintains a few hundred locations throughout London and surrounding areas. Some of its areas of PSV training are safety, mechanical operations and driving.

    National Driving Centre

    • This commercial driver training center provides instructors for PSV and PCV licenses (D2 and D1, respectively). Trainees practice and test on a 53-seat coach with a six-speed transmission. The NDC holds training in various areas around the United Kingdom.
