Transportation Safety Training

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration provides safety training and education in areas of transportation that include aviation, traffic, HAZMAT motor carriers, and transit bus and rail. RITA also offers safety statistics and analysis.
  1. Aviation Safety

    • RITA offers training in the area of aviation safety through the National Aircraft Accident Investigation School and the Aviation Safety Division. Courses include basic aircraft accident investigation, aviation safety program management and safety management systems. The Aviation Safety Division also offers technical assistance in accident investigation and course and curriculum development for training programs.

    Traffic Safety

    • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration works to reduce motor vehicle accidents; it provides training programs for traffic security through the Transportation Safety Institute. Federal, state and local highway safety professionals train in the planning, managing and evaluation of traffic safety programs. Data analysis and evaluation, impaired driving and occupant protection are covered during this program.

    HAZMAT and Transit

    • TSI offers specialized regulation classes for hazardous material incidents, transporting hazardous materials, radioactive materials, explosives and the military airlift of hazardous materials. The Transit Safety and Security Division provides training in areas that include bus collision investigation, rail safety and security audits, and bus and rail hijacking. The ultimate mission is to provide the transit industry with timely and professional training.
