Prospective technicians can obtain RV technical training at a local community college, technical school or through a distance learning program. All accredited RV technical training courses use the textbook published by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
Distance learning courses require you to contact a local RV repair center to arrange for a manager to oversee the hands-on part of the curriculum. The distance learning school will help facilitate this. All RV technical training includes learning about the major systems of an RV such as plumbing, gas, water and electrical systems.
According to RVIA, as the RV industry builds more RVs, there is an increasing demand for RV technicians at all levels. Entry-level RV technicians earn between $20,000 and $40,000 per year, according to data collected by RVIA in 2007.
