List of Egged Bus Lines

Egged provides 55 percent of Israel's public transport services. The company was established in January 1933, when four separate firms operating public transportation merged into one. The company's name was chosen by Chaim Nachman Bialik, then the national poet. As of May 2011, Egged's Operations Division is made up of three sections: northern, southern and Jerusalem.
  1. Service Overview

    • Egged operates a total of 929 service lines, using a fleet of 2,824 buses. On a daily basis, 900,000 passengers travel on 38,267 services operating along these 929 lines. The Egged fleet travels 503,621 miles every day, and serves many of Israel's tourist destinations from Tel Aviv, the country's capital city.

      These include the Red Sea Resort of Eilat, Jerusalem, Masada and the Dead Sea.

    Eilat Services

    • Buses 393 and 394 from Tel Aviv to Eilat leave Yaffo Central Bus Station and take five hours and 40 minutes to complete the journey. Bus 444 links Jerusalem with Eilat, and this journey takes four hours and 50 minutes. The service numbers are the same for the return journeys. As of May 2011, there were 11 bus services per day in both directions between Tel Aviv and Eilat and four trips in each direction between Jerusalem and Eilat.

    Jerusalem Services

    • Egged bus service 405 links Tel Aviv Yafo Central Bus Station with Jerusalem Central Bus Station. Services in both directions are very frequent, with departures every 15 to 20 minutes from 5:50 a.m. to midnight. The first alighting stop for passengers boarding the bus to Tel Aviv in Jerusalem is Yafo La Guardia Interchange. The first alighting stop for passengers travelling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is the Har'el Interchange Center.

    Masada and Dead Sea Services

    • As of May 2011, there is one Egged evening departure per day from Tel Aviv to Ein Bokek, the Dead Sea Resort area. However, there are a number of daily departures from Jerusalem to Masada and Ein Bokek. If you want to travel to either destination for the day from Tel Aviv, take an early 405 bus to Jerusalem -- the first leaves at 5:50 a.m. Bus Numbers 486 and 444 travel between Jerusalem, Masada and Ein Bokek. The last evening departure back to Jerusalem leaves Ein Bokek at 7:35 p.m.
