Military Toll Exemptions in New York: Active Duty Pays No Tolls on Most Crossings

Active-duty U.S. military personnel (including National Guard & Reserves on active orders) are exempt from tolls on most major New York crossings.

Exempt Facilities (with valid military ID or NY EZ-Pass linked to military status)

• NY State Thruway (I-87/I-90): All toll barriers. Private vehicle + military ID.
• MTA Bridges & Tunnels: RFK (Triborough), Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck, Verrazzano-Narrows, Henry Hudson, Cross Bay, Marine Parkway. Requires NY EZ-Pass with military designation.
• Port Authority of NY & NJ: George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Outerbridge Crossing, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge. Military ID at toll booth or EZ-Pass.
• TBTA (Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority): Same as MTA above (now consolidated).

Conditions

• Must be active duty (not veteran/retiree unless separately qualified).
• Private, non-commercial vehicle only.
• Motorcycles included.
• Dependents/family members not eligible unless they are also active duty.

Carry military ID and/or register for the NY EZ-Pass Military Plan. Veterans/retirees may qualify for other discounts (e.g., Thruway Veteran E-ZPass).
