Cruises That Start & Finish in Hawaii

After the 2003 Hawaii Cruise Ship Initiative, Norwegian Cruise Lines became the only large major cruise line to offer cruises that start and finish in the Hawaiian Islands, but there are several smaller cruise companies with enticing inter-island cruise packages for tourists. There are seven inhabited islands in the chain that makes up Hawaii. Some of the islands do not have ports that can accommodate cruise ships. These ports require the big ships to dock off shore, and passengers must take a transfer boat to reach the island.
  1. Pride Of America

    • Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America includes overnight stops in Kauai and Maui. The cruise begins and ends in Oahu at Aloha Tower Marketplace, 15 minutes from Honolulu International Airport. Many Oahu activities are available for passengers before and after their travel. Stops in the itinerary include Maui, Hilo, Kona and Kauai. Guests can experience bike tours, snorkeling, seasonal whale watching or parasailing at most stops. Separate fees may apply to certain activities. On-board accommodations are suites and penthouses. The ship's numerous dining options include the Aloha Cafe, which features buffet dining in a Hawaiian-themed setting.

    Hawaiian Seascapes Cruise

    • Adventure Smith Explorations offers cruises around the islands but on a smaller scale than Norwegian Cruise Line. Its ship, the Safari Explorer, measures 150 ft. and carries 39 passengers per voyage. On-baord amenities include a sauna, hot tub, complimentary massages and bar. Each cabin has a private bath, TV and DVD in addition to ports for outside viewing. The Hawaii Seascapes cruise is an eight-day, six-island tour that features stops in harbors or inlets every night. The itinerary includes Maui, Moloka'i, Lana'i, Molokini, coral reefs, and the big island of Hawaii. In addition to a a sail by such natural wonders as the Kalaupapa Peninsula, with the tallest sea cliffs anywhere, the cruise offers ample opportunites for seeing marine mammals and whales, and for such activities as golf, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, and swimming.

    Hawaii's Traditional Shores Cruise

    • This 11 day, 10 night cruise offered by Adventure Smith Explorations on the Safari Explorer starts in Maui and includes a walking tour of the whaling village of Lahaina before embarking to Moloka'i for chances of whale-watching on the way, and opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, swimming or hiking. The cruise continues to Molokini, an uninhabited island, and on to "The Big Island," Hawaii, for stops with adventure and activities along its varied coasts and coves before the cruise comes to an end at Kailua-Kona. This cruise has a similar itinerary to the Hawaii Seascapes cruise, but with longer stays and more opportunities for exploration.
