Cruises that Circumnavigate Australia

Australia is an enormous island continent with a long coastline, stretching more than 16,000 miles. Along that coast are a number of major cities, such as Sydney and Perth, offering a variety of local attractions. The terrain ranges from desert to subtropical and with many desolate stretches along the coast, traveling by car is difficult and unappealing. Fortunately, there are a few cruise lines that travel partly around the continent and two that circumnavigate the entire country.
  1. Princess Cruises

    • Princess Cruise Lines offers a cruise that circumnavigates the entire Australian island. The next one departs Sydney on March 11, 2011 and returns there 28 days later. Since cruises that circumnavigate the island last for nearly a month, only one is scheduled each year. Prices range from $4,495 for an interior view room to $10,395 for a balcony suite aboard the Dawn Princess.

    Cunard Cruise Lines

    • Cunard Cruise Lines has offered one cruise that circumnavigates Australia. The Queen Mary 2 is a luxury cruise ship that will make its first circumnavigation of Australia in 2012. Though registration is closed, the route is posted on the Queen Mary 2 website, which should be checked for future circumnavigations.

    Holland America

    • Though Holland America Cruise Lines doesn't currently offer a cruise that circumnavigates the island--only two cruise lines currently do--it does offer a voyage that covers the eastern and northern portion of the island, along with neighboring islands such as Tasmania and Singapore. Prices range from $4,589 for an interior cabin to $9,199 for an ocean view veranda suite. The cruise lasts for 32 days.
