Cruises Departing from the Bahamas

While most cruises around the Bahamas depart from Florida and go through the Bahamas, there are a select few that depart from the Bahamas. There are a variety of specialized cruises that leave the Bahamas, some of which depart from the Bahamian capital of Nassau.
  1. Nassau Majestic Lady Dinner Cruise

    • The Nassau Majestic Lady Dinner Cruise is a three-hour tour that departs from Nassau at 7 p.m. and arrives back at 10 p.m. It is an excellent way to sample some local food and relax while taking in the striking views the Bahamas offer. The Majestic Lady features an all-you-can-eat buffet with chicken, beef, salad, rolls, dessert and coffee. The specialty, however, is a Bahamian meal of peas and rice. There also is a DJ who plays music from around the world for you to dance to after dinner. What's more, there is a limbo dancer and a native fire show to watch. Getting to the ship is not a problem, as the Majestic Lady offers a shuttle service to and from most major hotels in the area.

The Majestic Lady runs every Tuesday and Friday evening from June to December. As of 2010, an adult cost $59.99, while children ages 3 to 11 cost an additional $27.50. Children under the age of 4 eat free.

This dinner cruise cannot be booked directly. It can be booked through several online travel agencies, such as Majestic Holidays or Viator.

    Aqua Cat Diving

    • The Aqua Cat is a weeklong cruise departing from Nassau every Saturday evening. It is a specialty cruise, catering to those who are interested in recreational diving. The Aqua Cat does not just offer diving; it also brings its customers to isolated beaches for days of kayaking, swimming and sunbathing. Snorkels also are available to rent, and if you want to dive but are not certified you can become certified for $99. Three gourmet meals are served each day, along with complimentary drinks. These are included in your flat rate.

As of 2010, the cruise costs $2,295 per person. Port tax, parking fees and a fuel surcharge are an additional $190, and a 15 percent gratuity is recommended for the crew. Cabin No. 11, located in the front of the boat, has no windows except for a skylight, so it is only $1,795 per person. Scuba gear is available for rental if you do not have your own.

    Blackbeard's Cruises

    • Blackbeard's Cruises offers a cheaper option for another weeklong cruise that departs from Nassau. Rather than a large diesel-powered ship that is generally associated with cruises, Blackbeard's Cruises runs a smaller, sail-driven yacht. Like the Aqua Cat, this cruise goes all around the Bahamas but with no set itinerary---rather, it just goes where the conditions are most favorable. Diving, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking are all available. This is a smaller cruise, carrying only 24 passengers, which engenders a great deal of comaraderie not usually available on larger ships.

Blackbeard's Cruises cost $899 per person and last a week. Like the Aqua Cat, this amount does not factor in the crew gratuity or equipment rental.
