Cruises Leaving Boston

While the majority of cruises depart from southern ports on the Atlantic Coast--from the Carolinas to Florida--northern travelers can head to Boston where three major cruise lines offer adventures up and down the coast and across the Atlantic. Day trips along the New England coast, whale watching and excursions to Cape Cod and Nantucket are also available from Boston.
  1. Holland America Line

    • Holland America Line is a subsidiary of Carnival Cruise Lines and operates 14 ships, with the MS Maasdam the main vessel sailing out of Boston. Built in 1993, the ship features a teak deck, a two-tiered dining room and an impressive art collection. Cabin amenities include flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Trips from Boston include a seven-night New England tour, with stops in Quebec, Nova Scotia and Maine. A 14-night New England tour adds additional cities and ports to the cruise. For those looking to leave the continent, Holland America offers a 17- and 35-night transatlantic cruise that stops in Canadian ports as well as Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark and England.

    Norwegian Cruise Line

    • Norwegian Cruise Line operates out of Miami, Florida, and is best known for the freestyle cruising concept that does away with set dining times and seating arrangements. The Norwegian Spirit, built in 1998, operates out of Boston with large well-appointed cabins and seven restaurants. The ship houses a 1,000-seat theater, a disco, movie theater, bars, lounges and a casino. Cruises offered out of Boston include a one-night cruise to nowhere, a seven-night trip to Bermuda with several stops along the way, or a seven- or 14-night New England cruise with stops in Maine and several Canadian ports. For those looking for a longer cruise, Norwegian offers a 15-night Caribbean cruise with stops in Barbados, St. Kitts, Aruba, Honduras, Mexico and Louisiana.
