How to Prevent Cruise Ship Weight Gain

Cruises are a great way to relax and unwind, but if weight gain is a concern for you, they can be stressful as well. Everywhere you look, there are buffets and snacks that include lots of rich foods for you to enjoy. A little advance planning can help you to avoid gaining weight on your next cruise vacation.

Instructions

    • 1

If you're at a buffet, only take what you want most and leave the rest. Choose low-calorie fruits and vegetables--they should make up about 1/3 to 1/2 of your meal.

    • 2

Monitor what you drink. Limit your consumption of alcohol, soda, juice and sweetened tea, since calories in these beverages can add up. Drink water, club soda or unsweetened tea most of the time.

    • 3

Stay active. Take advantage of the many opportunities on and off the ship to be active. There are gyms, exercise classes and pools on most ships, as well as opportunities to dance. When the ship docks, you can walk or book an active excursion. It is easy to spend at least an hour a day engaged in physical activity on a cruise.
