How to Pack for a Cruise

Before you can enjoy fun in the sun, you need to get packing. You need to know how to pack for a cruise so you don't forget any of the essential items. Fortunately you should be able to buy most of the items you need if you happen to forget them, but be prepared for expensive price tags.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a packing list. This should include different categories such as bathroom supplies, clothing, entertainment and equipment. If you start your list in advance you can write down all of the items you use in an average day and that can be the basis for your packing list. If all else fails try an online packing list (see Resources for link.)

    • 2

List the things to get done before you leave. If you have a pile of bills or need to make arrangements for children or pets before you leave, make sure everything is ready to go.

    • 3

Split your clothing items into more than one checked bag if you are traveling with a companion. If one of your bags gets lost, then at least you will have some backup clothing while you wait for your bags to find you, or until you can buy some replacement clothes at your destination.

    • 4

Put any important belongings in your carry-on bags. If you absolutely cannot live without your camera or medications, be sure to pack them in your carry-on bags in case your checked bags get misplaced.

    • 5

Pack different types of clothing for different locations you may encounter. If your cruise has a formal night, you may need a dress or suit instead of a Hawaiian shirt and shorts.

    • 6

Prepare for different types of weather. Just because your cruise may be in the Caribbean doesn't mean that it wont be chilly at night or rain when you least expect it.
